KICKSBYSAMMY'S GUIDE TO CHICAGO
THINGS TO DO, PLACES TO SEE, AND FOOD TO EAT WHILE VISITING KICKSBYSAMMY'S CHICAGO INSTALLMENTS
940 N MICHIGAN AVE. CHICAGO, IL CBRE & SPIAGGIA RESTAURANT
June 2018
By Caroline DeCaro

CBRE, the world’s largest commercial real estate firm, asked for the help of KicksBySammy in their pursuit of re-inventing the typical “for lease” sign. CBRE was inspired by KicksBySammy’s distinct artwork, and requested a custom design for their 940 N Michigan Ave. location in Chicago, Illinois. This installment wraps around the block of W Walton Street, and features numerous small details that speak to CBRE’s potential leasee’s and the spirit of Chicago.
Upon seeing the installment of CBRE’s attention-grabbing windows, Spiaggia Restaurant (located on the floor above the CBRE space) reached out to KicksBySammy in hopes of having their own window designed alongside of CBRE’s on N Michigan Avenue. Spiaggia’s Executive Chef, Joe Flamm, won Top Chef Season 15 around the time KicksBySammy began designing the window. Thus, the ultimate design focused on Joe Flamm himself, and was unveiled at the Top Chef Season 15 finale reveal party.
After seeing the windows, taking in all of the details, and of course snapping some cute pictures, there are plenty of fun things to do and see in the area.
Millenium Park/“The Bean”
Officially known as the Cloud Gate, “The Bean” is the immense, mirrored public sculpture located in Millenium Park. The sculpture is fascinating, and is a must-see for anyone visiting Chicago.
Chicago Riverwalk
Take a walk along the main branch of the Chicago River, and enjoy the beautiful juxtaposition of the blue-green water lining the busy streets and massive skyscrapers of the city. Pedestrians are free to walk along the river’s waterfront, though there are a number of boat tours available. Weather permitting, this walk will take you through the city and its neighborhoods rich with restaurants and entertainment.
Skydeck
Located on the 103rd floor of the former Sears Tower, the Skydeck offers Chicago’s best views and the iconic “Ledge” for those who feel that just looking out of the windows is not enough. The Ledge allows brave-hearted visitors to step out into glass boxes at 1,353 feet above the city below.
Hot Dogs and Deep Dish
Before leaving the city, it’s imperative to enjoy a Chicago-style hot dog, and of course, a slice of deep dish pizza. Both of these Chicago classics are available all over the city, and each restaurant, vendor, or shop offers the signature hot dogs and/or deep dish pizzas just as delicious as the next. However, the most notable hot dog chain is Portillos, while the most notable deep dish chain spot is Pizzeria Uno, the restaurant to allegedly serve the very first slice of this chicago-style pizza.
